UTC Plymouth came to us needing a new, modern website and a branding upgrade. This specialist science and engineering college in Plymouth offers innovative educational opportunities for 14-19 year olds. But its status as a pioneering learning environment was being let down by a weak web presence and lacklustre branding.

The brief was to create a website that works perfectly – but which also inspires young people and their parents. The site needed to embrace the same bold spirit that guides the college’s approach to education.
At the same time, the college needed us to bring their branding up to date. Working with their existing visual identity, we would have to update their logo and style to refresh the brand and better reflect their forward-looking ethos.
The website we created for UTC Plymouth delivered a much-needed injection of personality and style. Approachable but grown-up, and informative but engaging, the new site communicated the identity the college has always intended to project.
What’s more, the website is packed with the functionality that’s needed from the online hub of a contemporary college. As a dynamic WordPress site, it comes loaded with a powerful CMS – a system that hands content control over to the user. So now UTC Plymouth can update their news pages, events and course information at any time with ease.
Another feature we included was a multi-language facility to make the website accessible to non-English-speaking students and parents. Plus, the website is designed to display perfectly on any device – perfect for a generation of students more likely to access the web on their phone than on a computer.
To strengthen the impact of the new site, we upgraded aspects of UTC Plymouth’s branding. By simplifying their existing logo, re-thinking their colour palette and deploying typography cleverly, we hugely enhanced the visual appeal of the college without the need for starting from scratch.
