The Duke of Cornwall, Plymouth’s First Luxury Hotel

There’s certainly something special about the Duke. Whether it’s the rich history or it’s endearing presence, the hotel makes for a stunning slice of Victorian gothic grandeur. So when it came to redesigning and rebuilding their website, we set out to infuse this air of luxury and elegance in every detail.

The Duke of Cornwall Hotel had a number of concerns and faced daily frustrations with their old CMS (Content Management System), such as the inability to add rich media to pages, a generally unintuitive, difficult to use admin and SEO performance issues site wide. The hotel was ranking poorly for most search terms and was suffering with a high bounce rate.

We committed ourselves to providing a vastly improved experience for visitors to the website with a complete redesign, rebuild and restructure, whilst staying true to the Duke’s very individual identity. Copy was rewritten to improve readability and SEO performance, along with focusing on usability and responsiveness on mobile devices.

With additions to the homepage such as a dynamic news feed, featured events, tailored modular sections and a much more intuitive main navigation, visitors to the site can now find pages quicker and generally have a more pleasurable and enlightening experience.

Matrix also helped refine their branding with a look-and-feel rebrand whilst also revisiting printed literature such as magazine advertising, menus, stationary and hotel welcome packs.
