South Devon UTC Recruitment Campaign

South Devon UTC, specialising in science and engineering, required a recruitment campaign to communicate the benefits of studying at the new and innovative Newton Abbot-based school.

The objectives were to create interest among young people and their parents across the target area of Plymouth, Exeter, Torbay and Devon and to generate applications.

Matrix developed a powerful creative concept with a strong strapline ‘Change your world’.

This reflected:

  • the big decision that we were asking young people to consider – moving schools
  • the motivation behind young people’s desire to study science, engineering and the environment.

The striking campaign visuals featured inspirational young people following successful science, engineering and environmental careers within sponsor organisations.

A fully-costed advertising schedule was then developed to reach target young people and parents in Plymouth, Exeter, Torbay and Devon.

The campaign included events and parents’ evenings in Totnes, Torquay, Exeter, and Newton Abbot to coincide with the peak recruitment period for Years 10 and 12.

We’re delighted to report that the campaign was a resounding success and the school welcomed its first cohort of future engineers and scientists this September.
